In 2014 we were awarded the Gold standard Quality Mark for Primary Languages. 'The school provides a rich MFL curriculum which gives the children real contexts for their language learning' (Jane Dawson, primary languages advisor). We are delighted that our primary languages work has been given this accreditation as we continue to offer French to Key Stage 2 pupils and Spanish in an after-school club.
In 2015, we became an ALL Connect centre linked to Newcastle University to train other teachers in the teaching of primary languages.
Mrs McQuillin, who teaches French in school and runs Spanish Club, has also worked as primary languages advisor for South Tyneside Council since 2015, training teachers and supporting other schools in the delivery of primary languages. She has also delivered primary languages training to Newcastle University PGCE students.
In April 2016 and April 2017, we organised and hosted a primary languages mini-placement for some PGCE students from Newcastle University.
